Probate Fees to increase from April 2019

At present probate fees are paid to the government when administering someone’s estate after they die.

Currently families pay a flat rate of £215 or £155 if they apply through a solicitor, on estates over £5,000.

The government have announced that no probate fees would be paid on estate under £50,000. However, if the estate value is higher than this, there will be an increase in probate fees.

The fees will depend on the amount the estate is worth.

Fees will range from £250 where estates are worth £50,000 to £300,000 with a maximum charge of £6,000 for estates worth £1 million.
