With the unexpected, yet excellent news from last night, It is great news for the housing market and possibly the economy as a whole, the Government has set out plans to re-start the housing market, which has been at a standstill since the lockdown.

The guidance that has been issued states the following:

“6.— (1) During the emergency period, no person may leave the place where they are living without a reasonable excuse.

(2) For the purposes of paragraph (1), a reasonable excuse includes the need—

(l) to undertake any of the following activities in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of residential property—

(i) visiting estate or letting agents, developer sales offices or show homes;

(ii) viewing residential properties to look for a property to buy or rent;

(iii) preparing a residential property to move in;

(iv) moving home;

(v) visiting a residential property to undertake any activities required for the rental or sale of that property;”;

Property website Zoopla estimate in the region of 373,000 property sales have been put on hold with a total value of £82bn.

On this bases and with immediate effect estate agents are permitted to re-open, carry out viewings as well as a support network for property matters, which are all essential to residential property transactions including removal firms are able to re-start operations, of course, they must comply with social distancing and ensure all staff and the general public remain safe.
